500,000 Romanians in Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria and Belgium are up to 15 years old

Figures help us all to get to know the Romanian community in other countries better. Ziarul Financiar recently published an article based on Eurostat data in July 2025, Romania growing abroad: Over 15% of Romanians living in EU countries are under 15 years old.

We've summarized the most important information for you:

    • Romania ranks first in the European Union in terms of the rate of migration to EU countries, with 3.1 million Romanians, representing 16% of the country's population.
    • Germany and France, at less than 1%, have the lowest migration rates relative to the country's population in the EU.
    • The largest Romanian communities in the European Union are in Italy, Germany, Spain, Austria, Belgium and Spain, with 2.8 million people. This represents 90% of all Romanians living in EU countries other than Romania.
    • 500,000 Romanian children up to the age of 15 - that's one in six Romanians - live in the largest Romanian communities in the European Union, in these countries:
      • Italy (200.000)
      • Spain
      • Germany
      • Austria
      • Belgium
